Tell us about yourself

In my current role as Organizational Change Manager with British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), my focus is on providing change management support, guidance, and direction across the organization.  I’ve been with BCI for just over six months and recently moved from Vancouver to Victoria.  I have a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Regina and a Certificate in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University.  I’ve completed my Prosci change management certification and am also an accredited Insights Discovery Client Practitioner.

Why did you decide to join ACMP Vancouver?

Before joining BCI, I was a member of the Enterprise Change Management team at BC Hydro.  Daniel Watt, my manager at BC Hydro – who is also the Vancouver Chapter ACMP President – encouraged my participation in the ACMP.  Even though I’m now living in Victoria, I’m looking forward to staying connected through ACMP Vancouver with my peers on the mainland.

What are you working on?

A significant focus for me in the year ahead will be implementation of an organizational change management (OCM) strategy.  BCI’s transformation to an active, in-house asset manager requires a different business and investment model, changing how we operate, shifting skill sets and expertise, implementing new technology, strengthening interactions with stakeholders, and a corporate culture to support these initiatives.  We have multiple large-scale initiatives upcoming that span departments, and these activities will mean more change.  The OCM strategy is an intentional plan to ensure that we apply an organizational lens to: anticipating and managing change impacts on employees; building change capability and resiliency; and ensuring change adoption and sustainment to fully realize long-term benefits.

Do you have any recommended change management books / resources to share?

I recently attended the ACMP conference in Orlando and have a long list of books and resources I want to delve into.  Some of the resources on my list are Managing Change in an Agile World by Kate Nelson, Gina Giannitelli and Shannon Stautberg, The Coaching Habit – Say Less, Ask More & Change the Way You Lead Forever by Michael Bungay Stanier, and Susan Scott’s Ted Talk on Radical Transparency.

How do you like to spend time outside of work?

As a relative newcomer to Victoria, I’m enjoying exploring Vancouver Island.  I’ve discovered numerous great hikes, a vibrant food and music scene, and still feel like a tourist at times.
